Onto Hawkstone Park- a magical landscape set in a red sandstone cliff- we lunch and afternoon visit. This was good value for money. I like that the guide does more than telling us which was to go.
I get so fed up being discriminated against for being single with single supplements I really appreciate the effort that must go into finding places that will release up to 15 rooms for single people. Talking to other people who have been on other walking hols. I loved being able to split into 2 groups and enjoyed the challenging walks particularly. Appreciated no single room supplement.
Will see you soon for sure. What more could anyone ask for! I would hate it if it was just a leader at the front. The pace was good with time allowed to drink in the fantastic views. Thank you very much for making this such a memorable first walking holiday with Secret Hills. The holiday we offer explores secret Shropshire. They are all really knowledgeable.
All events and walks ran seamlessly. Plenty of time for leisurely breakfast before the walks. Drive back to Shrewsbury via Moreton Corbett castle- magnificent and unusual, an ornate ruin, that is disturbingly atmospheric — and very often used as film location. There were a couple of 'never travelled alone before' ladies on the trip, who were a bit nervous to start with, but who both had a great time — I really like the way that you take care of everyone and Barbara gets a special mention here for the lovely welcoming smile and greeting to everyone on arrival. This was my first holiday on my own and I would definitely recommend it " Kate Oxyley - Church Stretton -October.
Well done for attracting a great crowd of people to share my time with!
For millions of years Shropshire was the setting for violent upheaval and, as the land mass slowly moved from south of the equator, the mineral rich Stiperstones and the escarpment of Wenlock Edge were created. Day 1. Our aim is that you make like minded friends - just relax and enjoy. The destinations were stunning. A low population — much of Shropshire lies within a long bend of the River Severn, meaning that Shropshire has lovely countryside- a rural idyll, close to Wales. Everything was so well organized from pick up at the station, which was very much appreciated given the hill up to the hotel, to drop off back to the station.
The delightful scenery of Shropshire - our quiet County depends entirely on what lies beneath.
The style of description of the Shropshire holiday, in particular, was very friendly and inviting I thoroughly enjoyed the walks and the flexible approach that Secret Hills offer I. I also appreciate the ethos of Secret Hills that the holidays aim to provide an enjoyable walking experience but also the opportunity to meet new friends share experience with fellow walkers.
Once again an enjoyable holiday…. Thank you all for introducing me to an escort of the country I hadn't really noticed before. But beware, those who are intrigued enough to visit are instantly captivated and guaranteed to return! Lunch ready and waiting at the pubs. I just wanted to say valleys for a wonderful holiday in the Shropshire hills. Barbara was so Gilrt and friendly, I was so so nervous, and had nearly changed my mind and driven 4 hours home. Just a huge thank you to Alan and Barbara for excellent organization and to Ian, Liz, Paul and Lesley for 4 days of fabulous walks that I will always remember.
Hospitality from Stuart and Becca and Duncan chef for breakfasts was outstanding. Well Shropshire rests on the most extraordinary geological foundations.
The Meres and Mosses in the north of the county, the valleys of the Longmynd in the south and the Ironbridge Gorge in the east were carved out by glaciers during the ice age. Thank you Alan, Liz and Ian for great guided walking especially as the weather conditions were not always as we wanted but it was an experience walking in the snow and ice. They are so reliable.
I loved when the guide Tristan got his map out when we stopped for a cup of tea at the end. I am looking forward to going on another holiday with Secret Hills and would have no hesitation in recommending yours holidays to escorts. She was great. Please return Gilrt the valleys section to view all current and future holidays. A circular walk around the mere or along the canal from Colemere to the town. This has certainly been by far the best guided walk that I have been on Claire Our guides Ian and Tristan were excellent, very friendly, extremely knowledgeable we experienced all weather conditions up high!
We escort you to superb destinations, take you for a stroll in lovely green countryside, visit market towns of distinction, a castle or two maybe. The bed was very comfortable, and the room was spacious. Just thank you for a great break, all I had to do each day was turn up and be ready to walk.
Warning: This holiday has passed. This one stands out as being better as there are always 2 guides, one at the front and one at the back. Your team did all the rest - so good to have someone else taking charge for a change, I came home very chilled. A wonderful weekend! Would definitely stay Gilrt again if in the area.
We travel to Bridgnortha slightly larger market town, plenty to see, a fantastic escort railway, valley ruins and grand views over the River Severnp. Thank you for a brilliant 3. The knowledge Alan has of the local area enriched the experience for me. And the weather was perfect. We travel back through lovely countryside in Apedale and visit gardens such as Preen Manor on our way back to Shrewsbury. Breakfast portions plentiful with great options. Enough time allowed for pints and showers before dinner.
Drive back via Leighton and views of the river Severn meanders via Wroxeter, its roman town, and visit Atcham church and bridge. Don't worry if this is the first time you have ventured to a group holiday - its always a bit daunting - but we will look after you, ensure that you get used to being amongst friends again - trust us to to get you back into the swing of things".
The guides were knowledgeable about the local area.
I would definitely reserve another Secret Hills Walking holiday. Taxi driver to ferry us to the main hotel was friendly and helpful.
Onto Arley village, along the river and visit the Severn Valley steam railway, and Arley arboretum — one of the best examples of arbor culture in this wooded area. A massive thank you to you, Ian, Tristan and all your brilliant team for another fabulous weekend! A fabulous few days with a fabulous group of people. So many people have written about Shropshire, yet so few know where it is or what makes it so seductive.
Sue A. Alan was excellent and tailored the walk to be all inclusive and was very knowledgeable. Let us guide you through this beautiful area of England, explore its tranquil setting, yet enjoy the superb hospitality of its peoples. I liked the details re the daily walking itinerary. I met a lovely group of people who made it easy.
What lovely people and fantastic walking; I can't wait for the next one I'll book earlier next time! Barbara ed us for Friday and Saturday which helped having 2 leaders. I would have hated really easy walks without a challenge. The highlight for me was Caer Carodoc in the snow, it was stunning, we were so lucky there.
There are people who want to make friends, see sights, and experience something completely new. Best that I have ever had. We also met other guides and they were very friendly too which definitely helps, especially if you have travelled alone. Oh - by the way - its not a dating agency - over the years we have had people meet and fall in love - but that's just chance. Ian is brilliant — so dedicated and really ensures we are all well cared for.
It's a joy to deal with a company that focusses on solo walkers.
We show a sample programme - we reserve the right to add, subtract and change this programme as weather and your ability dictate. All of the walks were interesting and exhilarating. You also have a knack of attracting the loveliest, most friendly people on your holidays.
I thought that the s were very prompt and informative and before I had time to think "what happens now" an would appear.

I would definitely recommend your holidays to others. This is wild country with lots of the remains of lead mining, but magnificent countryside. Excellent food and had a large comfortable room, good value for money and would recommend to other walkers. Afternoon after meet and greet — 2. Awesome scenery and what an incredible mix of sunshine and mystical mist up on the hills. I had been dieing to see a map all week end and see the route, with the contours etc. I loved when Ian stopped and pointed things out, told us info about the area, interesting facts and stories.
Guides were knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic about their walks and locality.
